Bubble is a platform giving parent customers and sitter customers the option of connecting with one another. We do not employ or supply babysitters to customers, and nor do we oversee or direct the work they do.
It is a customer’s responsibility to ascertain their employment status, ensure they’re complying to relevant regulations and pay any appropriate tax due.
As with any income you might earn during the year, if it totals more than the minimum personal threshold amount, then you will be liable to pay tax on it.
Whether you do babysitting via your own personal sources and other online platforms, or whether you do babysitting through Bubble, the same tax rules apply. You will be required to fill out a self-assessment form each year. This form enables you to work out what, if any, income you’ve accrued is liable for tax, and how much.
Guidance on how to do this can be found at: https://www.gov.uk/log-in-file-self-assessment-tax-return/register-if-youre-self-employed
If the nature of your work with a parent becomes more exclusive and long-term in nature, then it may be more representative of an employer-employee relationship. You should discuss this with the parent and work out the appropriate steps to take.
